MAPFRE, a Spanish insurer and insurance group in Latin America, has become the first IBEX 35-listed company to introduce a formal set of principles for the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence (AI).

The company has launched its Manifesto for a Humanistic, Ethical, and Responsible AI, outlining its commitment to developing AI solutions that align with ethical, transparent, and socially responsible standards.

The Manifesto presents a vision for AI that integrates human expertise with AI technology to deliver meaningful business value.

It emphasises responsible governance to ensure that AI initiatives support MAPFRE’s overall corporate strategy. The company underscores the importance of trust and transparency, with a focus on safeguarding data and ensuring that AI systems are reliable and secure.

Additionally, MAPFRE aims to leverage AI to enhance productivity, empower employees, and contribute to sustainable development that benefits both society and the environment.

In support of this vision, MAPFRE has established a global AI Centre, which will serve as the central hub for shaping and executing the company’s AI strategy.

The new centre brings together talent from Spain, Brazil, and the United States to foster innovation, ensure regulatory alignment, and optimise the deployment of AI solutions across the company. It will focus on coordinating high-impact projects that deliver significant value to both the business and its customers.

To date, MAPFRE has implemented over 115 AI-driven initiatives globally, including in areas like claims management, customer service, and process optimisation.

AI-powered virtual assistants now handle more than 40% of transactions, and 1.2 million customers benefit from automated document processing.

In Spain, the company’s AI strategy has reached a broad audience, with 70% of MAPFRE’s 7.7 million customers interacting with AI-based solutions. Over 60 ongoing AI projects have improved more than 16 million customer interactions, with tools like MIA GPT managing over 90,000 inquiries annually, resulting in a customer satisfaction rate of over 80%.

As part of its AI strategy, MAPFRE has also focused on talent development, with the number of AI-related positions within the company tripling in the last three years. Now, over 3,000 employees and intermediaries are using AI to enhance productivity and improve the customer experience.

“AI must serve people—not replace them,” commented Maribel Solanas, MAPFRE Group Chief Data Officer.

“With our Manifesto and AI Centre, we’re ensuring AI adoption is strategic, ethical, and human-centric.For MAPFRE’s managers, these capabilities are differentiating, and any step in AI must be taken at the company level with the participation of all teams, always thinking about obtaining tangible benefits for clients, employees, intermediaries, collaborators, and other stakeholders.”

The post MAPFRE introduces ethical guidelines for AI development appeared first on ReinsuranceNe.ws.

MAPFRE, a Spanish insurer and insurance group in Latin America, has become the first IBEX 35-listed company to introduce a formal set of principles for the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence (AI).
